How do I determine where my car was originally sold?

I have an 1987 911 and I'd like to determine what dealership originally sold it. I had hoped that a COA would indicate that, but then I read that this is not the case.

Is there any other way to find out, other than a title search?

Original Dealer

I have the original owners manual for my 79SC and it tells the dealer and date the 911 was put in service. Also, the original owners name and service records for the first 40K+ miles . This one was sold in Boston to gal in New Hampshire but made its way to California at some point where I bought it off a former Pelican.

Sorry Joe Bob, like Woody said. That's just one of the things that's not on the COA.

When I called PCNA to order the COA for my 80SC the young lady I talked to was able to check their records and tell me the name of the original dealer who sold the car new. That info was not on my later COA. The dealer was Max Dial P-A. Give PCNA a call.

Dealer info

Because the vehilce is an 87, it has a 17 digit VIN # and you should be able to get info from CARFAX as to city of origin, service date , etc. Spend $15 and look your car up........

Thanks for the tip! That was the winner.

I looked in my service book and found the stamp with the dealer number next to the in service date. The dealer no longer exists under its original name, but it was Giganti Porsche in Indianapolis. It was sold to Tom Woods.

Now I need to find a Giganti license plate frame.

If you got a Canadian Car, chance are that a Carfax would show it.

My Carfax showed the trail from the dealer in Mar 83 in St-Catherine to Kitchener, Toronto, Montreal, Victoriaville, Bar Heaven and finally Ottawa when I bought it in 2009.
