Slow clutch return.
Just bought a 1976 911s Targa and the clutch seems very soft and slow to return. I sat in a friends 87 Carrera and the clutch felt much stiffer and quick to return.
I have done some searching, but can't come to a conclusion as to what could be causing this. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks! |
Check the pedal cluster, might need new bushings, springs, etc... Do you know how old the cable is, may need to be replaced? Do you know how old the clutch and PP are? Comparing the two cars can be like apples and oranges.
Usually you will get no help until you post a pic of your car. ;) |

Replacing the cable can make a huge difference, as can rebuilding the pedal cluster. +1 on tobluforu's comments. Doug |

Thats her! Bought here of Nikita76 on here. Unfortunately thats the only picture I have of her yet. Was told that the bushings in the pedal box were done, but I will take a look. Thanks! |
Had the same problem on my '78SC
removed the pedal cluster cover and found the clutch return spring had broken/snapped. (apparently fairly common on Aussie delivered cars anyways?) The clutch still worked (it was using the spring on the gearbox) but was sloppy and slow in returning like yours. I replaced the spring... jobs done! Works perfectly now. Hope thats all that is wrong with yours. Cheers |
