you really have to appreciate good engineering. The engine yoke and the stomisky nut set are really made well. I dont mind paying for things that work well.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1311812394.jpg Also, its looking like the trinity was leaking pretty good. ill be fixing that up as well. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1311812460.jpg |
Did you get the flywheel lock as well it will come in handy?

not yet but its on the list. hopefully this weekend I will have time to clean and inspect and then put my final parts list together for the major tune up so to speak. I keep saying under my breath, no broken head studs, no broken head studs...

I overheated my original 2.7 in traffic after a concert in Honolulu and pegged or almost pegged my temp gauge nowhere to get off to the side so anyway the damage from that was no broken studs the case had time serts and bottom dilivar studs but out of 24 studs only 4 still had some torque on them 3 were completely loose and rattling and 12 nuts were still om the studs but finger tight or less and 5 were off the studs and rattling around in the cam tower and it was leaking oil from the entire bottom seam of the case. I was leaving the island soon so I put it a container bound for New Orleans and drove it like that from NO to west central Missouri in 13.5 hours. So I think you are ok you would know if you had broken studs by now and put a torque wrench on them and check them tight then remove them 1 at a time and re-locktight and re-torque them to spec be very careful to feel for a stud that wont take the torque it will feel like it just won't tighten that one is a pulled stud and will need a timecert installed. I hope you have none of those.
|
Also I would pull all the cooling fins out and do the mod on them for better airflow over the motor and you can look at the studs at the case end to see if any look like they are starting to pull and kinda look to see if you already have timecerts installed on the case also check to see if you have dilivar studs I think they are nonmagnetic. Both were common mods done back in the day.

cooling fins mod?? I did a search for that and came up with nothing. Do you have a link?

Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing. I got the book and it seems like that starting in 77 Porsche did this at the factory. Mine is a 77 and it looks like its been done but I want to verify. excuse all the dirt, ill be cleaning up this weekend. I circled an area in red that I think was the removed area. Is that correct?
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1311862556.jpg |
es that looks right both mine are 77's and neither had it done to it so you are ahead of the game. I dont remember do you have an external oil cooler? If not get one.
|
Well that is good news for a change. There is no oil cooler on the car yet, just the trombone lines. I am definitely adding that to the list. After all the work im putting into it I want it to last.
|
Get rid of the trombone cooler and invest in a good high eff. cooler to replace the trombone for sure. I have an old turbatrol cooler and even with these 105 days we are having the highest oil temp. I have seen was a little over 200.

Good eye James. I went back out and sure enough there were marking dots on all of the cylinders. I dont know if the case has been split before but at least the cyls have been off. Im going to clean it up really well on sat hopefully and see what we have.

I must say, 911lvr is some sport, seems everytime he turns around he finds something else wrong. Each time he takes it like a trooper.
911lvr, I hope you catch a break and real soon. |
