based on the fact that the previous owner seemed to have NO mechanical ability or $$$ to maintain this poor car I would say they would be original half shalfs. If its marked somewhere ill be happy to look for you. The car has 182K on it so I would say these do as well. I think the guy ran it with out much grease in it for a while considering all 4 boots were split. So I think he drive into the ground and then parked it.

Hello everyone.

So aprox 9 months after I bought this car, towed it to my house and pushed it in the garage, today was the day it went out under its own power. I had my first ever drive in this car this afternoon. It was so much fun!! now I need to get it tagged and insured so I can really take it out.

Its not perfect, the shifter is in dire need of work the brakes need going thru but over all it was a blast! I guess I can honestly say at this point I saved this 911 and its getting a second life. man I cant wait until Monday so I can get it legal and on the road!!

Thanks everyone for taking the journey with me and all the great advice.

A couple of thoughts on "do you or don't you".

If the engine is a DIY project and the engine looks good otherwise (repairable oil leaks, good rings, no signs of thrashing or negligence, etc.), IOW a thorough visual inspection shows no other issues other than for top end refreshing, I'd leave the bottom end alone. One could even remove the con rods and refurbish the rod bearings w/o disturbing the crankcase if needed. And if the engine is built on an aluminum crankcase and the mileage is reasonable (~<180K mi.), I'd leave it for another time.

However, if you're paying someone to rebuild your engine and there's significant labor and dollars invested, maybe you want to make sure the next time this is repeated is about 200K from now. Nothing is carved in stone.

Sherwood

AS many people have mentioned shifting a 911 is a special thing. Well mine is no different and it seemed especially sloppy. Considering this cars past I ordered new bushings and a sein gated shift kit and decided to have at it.

I think I might have discovered some of the problem..i took the shifter and this was in the bottom of the car..hmmmm good thing I bought another one of those!!

Hopefully, I will be able to get it all back in this weekend and go for another drive and see how it is. :D
