Thanks James. How do you mean? when I bought the yoke it specifically said for the 911? although, it seems to hit the oil cooler so it looks like I might be returning it.

gsmith660 07-18-2011 09:13 AM

That is not a factory yoke and doesn't look very strong our host sells the proper yoke and is not that expensive I would return that and get the right tool for the job.

911lvr 07-18-2011 09:26 AM

yeah, im in the process of doing just that.. it actually was pretty strong but it doesnt fit right. I should have known better :)

Since the engine yoke is on hold until I get a new one I was just out looking for more things that needed to be dealt with. I saw the CIS sitting on the bench and figured it could use a good cleaning, plus every injector is covered in this thick coat of silicone. So that isnt really going to work for me so ill be replacing the o-rings and the o-rings in the sleeves as well. might as well do it right. I have to say the injectors are pretty rusty looking then the runner sure need a good cleaning. The first injector just popped right out when I took the silcone off and the next one the injector wouldnt budge but the entire sleeve popped out. Its def and adventure with this car :)

in the runner there are three notches that you see around the opening. 2 of them project out into the opening and one is flush. im assuming its to hold the sleeve in along with the ring?

here is the injector and sleeve together..looks pretty rusty. You can see the silicon that I removed from the top of the injector. Why someone thinks that a good way to prevent a gas leak is beyond me.

James and Gary, will the correct engine yoke fit with the oil cooler still attached to the engine?

911lvr 07-19-2011 07:30 AM

never mind.. I figured it out.. thanks

Im beginning to feel like this poor car had no maintenance done to it ever. It looks like the intake runner boots will be getting replaced as well. They are dry rotten and cracked and im sure a good source of a leak. I kind of feel like im doing the most major tune up in history..lol

I also have a picture of the cleaned up shroud. its pretty beat up. What have people done to them in the past? I figure its off I might as well make it look nice.

YAY.. parts are starting to show up from our host. I cant wait to finish cleaning it up and start putting it back together. I got my trans mounting bolts today. they were pricey but I figure since it is what is holding it in the car id do it right. Still nothing on cleaning/refinishing the shroud pic above??

+1

Use automotive grade paint. Cleaners and solvents you might use working on a motor will dissolve spray paint fairly easy.

cool.. thanks guys.. I can always count on you.

update: I got a lift while I was waiting on my other parts and tools to arrive. Remember me talking about the trans mount bolts being messed up and cross threaded. So I bought the correct bolts from our host and tonight got under it to check out the where the bolts thread into. It was not good. There are barely any good threads left in there :( I was hoping to be able to just chase the threads and call it a day. however after looking up in there I think it will more than that. see pics below.. I saw one thread where they put in heli coils. I was wondering if that is the best solution to this? any suggestions?

Too critical for helicoils! you can get deep timeserts that will allow you to repair the holes and be as strong as the original you can search timesert kits that will have everything you need ie drill tap and installation tool as well as the serts I use enginetech but the last time I was there the site is not user friendly so I just called them to order the kit I needed.

911lvr 07-26-2011 05:52 PM

gary did you have to do the same thing to your trans mounts?

gsmith660 07-26-2011 07:35 PM

Who is Gary if you mean me I am Jerry and no I didn't I have used them on other things but with only 4 bolts holding your motor in you dont need to use helicoils on 2 of them.

j911brick 07-27-2011 12:26 AM

You can order directly from time-sert in Sparks, NV.

Sorry.. I thought the Gsmith was Gary smith. I apologize for the mistake.

That is why I was asking. I wanted to make sure the trans STAYED in the car so Time Serts it is. It looks like they are m12 x1.5 based on what ive read so I will get those and fix it up the correct way.

Thanks again.

Thanks. I also found them on amazon. I swear they have almost everything on that site..lol

I guess I have just added another project to the list in my quest to get the car running and set up correctly. I do have to say that the lift is already making me smile.

gsmith660 07-27-2011 05:16 AM

No problem you are very welcome good luck make sure you drill straight for thr sert.

Excellent!!! My tools showed up today. The correct engine yoke, the correct bolt kit to hold it on, the alt fan tool, and a blank for the key. I read where someone twisted theirs and I realized I only had one. Dont want to go thru that I have enough to deal with..lol Now I can get back to it. Time to get the engine on the stand, clean it up and start checking head bolts. Keep your fingers crossed!!
