Converting to manual locks... what to get?

Hi all,

I think this should be pretty straight forward, but I thought I would ask.

I have an'85 Coupe with power door locks. The power module/relays seems to keep mesing up and/or frying the door lock solenoids. Sometimes, the module keeps the solenoid powered in the lock on position and fries the solenoids. The USED solenoids are $25/each, I can't even FIND the module anywhere.

So, out goes the power door locks.

What do I get? Do I need anything more than the door lock linkages inside the door?

I cannot LOCK the doors from outside the car with the power door locks disconnected.

TIA

Nick...IMO, if you can't lock from outside w/key either lock motor is lose/poor alignment or motor/mechanics is siezing, or key lock is causing excess friction from lack of use. If you can move the interior lock manually there should be slightly more resistance than if auto lock linkage was disconnected....
If unhappy with stock electrical system the aftermarket has a complete auto lock up grade kit for about $175. Leave in your stock motor and linkage and only wire in brain and sol. Again, IMO

Hey Ronin,

Thanks for the input.

Actually, I found a lock kit with (get this) the SAME SOLENOIDS and a different brain! For $49.00! The used solenoids run $25 each!

I found thisin my LMC Chevy (www.lmctruck.com) truck catalog. They have a picture of the brain (different) and the two solenoids (same). Obviously they don't have the Porsche wiring, however, they do have male and female connectors.

The issue is that I cannot lock the doors from the outside with the solenoid power disconnected. I can lock the doors form the inside. This tells me the mechanical side of the lock mechanism is not connected or there inside the door.

I think I will go with the $49.00 version and change out the brain.

I wonder if J.C. Whitney has the same setup.

Thanks for your suggestions. :)

Mounting holes are identical. The fellow has them up all the time.

Hey Tim,

That's the kit I found in LMCTruck. I think I will bid. :D

Thank you!
