Clutch Cable - Strange sympton

I tried to adjust my clutch cable. I tightened the adjusting nut on the cable and the cluctch pedal looked liked it was in the right position. I pulled on the pedal with my hand and it had about an inch of play. Then I stepped on the clutch pedal and it didnt want to move, then I hear a pop and the pedal drops down a few inches and stays there. I tried tightenening the cable more, and the same thing happened. Does this sound like a cable problem or something bigger?

Mine did something similar when the helper spring wasnt installed correctly but it doesnt appear yours uses a helper(omega) spring. So Ill let the experts chime in...

Remove the cable from the tranny, pull on cable to see if it broke in the tunnel (might want to remove it to check it out). If not, remove floor board and check to see if spring broke at cluster. If not get back under tranny grab lever to see if it moves alot, if so the fork might have broke inside the tranny.
P.S. That is one clean looking tranny/motor.

I'll remove the cable tonight and see what I see. I treid moving the lever and it doesnt move, only wiggles a little bit. I am just getting the engine and tranny back in for the first time since rebuild. Lots of little things to adjust, I was worried that I put the fork on incorrectly and would have to drop the transmission.
Thanks!

If you can move it just a tad then that can be a good sign, check spring at cluster-hopefully it's this or cable. If worried, remove starter and take a look at fork, might be able to check it out using site hole with mirror. I know where you are coming from, just installed motor and tranny in my 72 that has been out for 6 months and what a cluster uck I have gone through, mostly user error on my part. Good luck and report back.
P.S. I noticed the custom mount for the clutch cable, what year car and tranny is this, could you also have the wrong clutch cable? Oops, its a 72-best damn year porsche ever made, is it a 72 tranny? Well maybe not tranny wise in regards to the seal.

The tranny is a 72, The custom mount for the clutch cable is because the corner of the tranny where the cable passes through was broken off at some point, so instead of having a hole to pass the cable through I had a 3/4 circle. The bracket is to make sure that the cable remains secured.

To fix my problem, I removed the arm and turned it towards the back of the catr by one spline tooth. Also, with the cable, I had the metal cap on the end of the cable housing on the side of the bracket closest to the front of the car. I moved it so that the rubber cable housing passed through the hole, and the metal cap was on the side closer to the back of the car. I pushed the clutch to the floor and it went down and came back without issue. Hopefully, thats it, I wont know til I get the car buttoned up and get to take a drive.

Same thing happened to mine (broken corner) and I had to mount an L bracket using good old JB weld while keeping it in place with a nut and bolt. I then back filled it with a form of liquid expoxy and drilled it out for the cable. Not the best, but you have to make due.
