Turn signal "flasher" where is it?

Finally tackling the peculiar blinker problem (varies from 1 working to both in unison, to no action at all). I have read all the archived posts and am pretty sure I know what procedure to use (check grounds, contact points, etc) but I am wondering about the "flasher". I thought that was a generic term for the blinker itself but many people refer to a bad flasher. Does this mean a "flasher relay?" If so, where is it? How do I check it?

Thanks,

I'm not sure about your early 68 car, cuz quite a few things are a little different (or a lot different), but on my 70 it's a little rectangular relay box behind the dash gauge panel. It's behind the fuel/oil combo gauge (left side) IIRC.

They do go bad. Unfortunately the part is around $35, but it's an easy fix.

$35 for a flasher. whoa. i would try to modify a $1.50 flasher. they are a very simple device. i'm sure the contacts could be modified to fit the port.

...what's it look like?

I used to have a good picture of one (in the car) but I can't find it...there's no pic on the Pelican catalog either.

The flasher relay is just a small rectangular box -- probably silver colored (metal) if original or black plastic if newer -- about the size of a "D" flashlight battery or so.

Easy way to find it is by sound (if it works at all) - the clicking sound when your blinkers are on comes from the relay. Follow the sound.

On my '66 model, both the turn signal and flasher relays were mounted under the footboard, right above the brake pedal.
