Dunlop Direzza DZ102?
Anyone have experience with the Dunlop Direzza DZ102?
I need new tires for my '77. I've been looking at the Continental ExtremeContact DW, but the Dunlops are quite a bit cheaper. They also have a $60 rebate right now, which means I could get a set of four delivered for around $330. The Continentals would be around $465 delivered. Prices are from tire rack, but I could end up buying local. I'm not looking for a track tire. I need a good street tire that has a nice ride but that is also responsive. I also want good wet performance. Frankly, it looks like the Continentals are the way to go. The only downside I see is that the Dunlops have a 460 treadwear rating, compared to the Continental's 340. Which I'm guessing equates to a stickier tire? Anyone have any other thoughts?

I chose the Continental Extreme tire - been on my car 6 months - good S. Cal street tire!

I used to run the previous tyre the z101, they are amazing, awesome grip good wear and still ok for a light track session or entry level track tyre, my advice is go for the dunlops you will love them.

Dunlops
I only have experience with these tires on my '72 Datsun 240z. I've used them both on the street and at autocross events and they have performed better than I expected them to. I'm definitely not the fastest driver by any means but they are performing well to the limits at which I am pushing them. Tire sidewalls seem nice and stiff, which isn't the best for improving street ride but that isn't a big concern for me. We're in a drought so I haven't gotten them wet yet either.
![]() On the Z, I'm running 205/50/15s. They're almost wide enough for 8.5" wheels. I'm considering another set (if that tells you anything) for the 16x7 Fuchs I just got for the '75 911S. They'll be 225/50/16s. I'd love to hear anyone else's experience with them on a 911. Last edited by cnwayland; 09-10-2015 at 04:54 PM.. |

Best grip for the money (well, up here in Canada anyways).
(For a 'street' tire that is, I think Azenis might grip better but they wear faster). |

Treadwear ratings are not comparable between manufacturers.
I don't have experience with either tire, but I'll throw out that wet perfrmance on another Continental tire that I just bought is pretty bad. It's an all-season, so the people I talked to at Continental thought it would have better wet performance than the higher performance tire you are considering. I was quite surprised how bad it is.
