porsche police car

i just bought a 1975 911 and the pink slip stated police vehicle.
when i registered the car, the reg. says PR/HIST: PRIOR POLICE.
the agent at triple a where i registered the car told me that the car used to be a police car.
i will try to obtain a cert of auth from Porsche for a history, but does anyone have any expeience with anything like that?
it would be cool to restore it to the original livery, but so far i have struck out with the internet for history.
any info would be helpful.
thanks, kevin

Sure it wasn't a police impound/re-assigned VIN?

Does it have a standard porsche issued vin? Plates still there?

The police did use 911's in the late 60's early 70's. I was stationed in Germany at the time and remember seeing a few on the autobahn. Never saw any in the states though.

Many marked police vehicles in the '70's in Germany, Netherlands, France and Belgium for a start. I have a book about them......For the US, if so, probably an "undercover" obtained thru a drug seizure.......Just a guess........

Police

Nuthin in the smugglers box.
When I changed title I asked them ,in fact it was a caveat re: sale of the car, if there was any impound ,seizure, or salvage title.
It is the same terminology when someone buys an old crown Vic, for example.
I am kinda hoping it was a european police car, but domestic DMV wouldn't care, I don't think.
Hopefully a COA will shed some light.
Is there any web site that can analyze the early vin?
Thanks for the info, I'm gonna go check the smugglers box again.
Kevin

Though I like the 911 and think the old police cars are cool I question the original intent. Police may need to the ability to pursue at high speeds with the caveat that they need to slow (drastically) mid-turn. Though many cars of the 70's may have been poor at this, the 911 may have been on the lower end for the average driver - conjecture though.

I wonder how many police spun their 911's into the forest chasing someone down. Would make for an interesting getaway tactic. Get police to chase you into a turn real hot and hit the brakes near the apex...

Years back when I was selling them, two FBI agents came in and wanted to sell me (as a rep of the dealer) a grey-market 930. From the start I really didn't have interest, knowing it was probably trashed around but more important, explaining to them why we didn't want a grey-market car.

Another time, I did sell an Audi 4000 that was used for undercover use. That car came back in shortly after being sold for repair. The whole under-carriage was trashed over a manhole cover. Funny, we had both d-dealers and gov. agents buying cars. Some changed cars every couple of months. No plate transfers either, just all new registrations.

Another time we took a 930 in trade. We took it out for a romp (130+ on a backroad) just before having it detailed. The kid detailing the car came into the office with a nice bale of weed! It was just sitting right in the luggage compartment! I'm think afterwards, holy S*** could only imagined getting busted for speeding and then some! This all happened in typical suburbia and not Miami.

There was an article a month or two ago in I believe Excellence magazine about the Belgium police fleet or Porsches.

Was in Europe in 1976 and the Dutch highway police had baby blue 911's. In fact we were on the highway when two Dutch Police blue 911's passed us going at least 120 MPH side by side weaving in and out out traffic chasing a Ferrari. The drivers had white leather jump suits and blue matching helmets.

There is a guy I talked to who is an R-Gruppe member whos name I donīt unfortunately remember. I called him for a friend to get info on a 70īs TargaS that a friend of my had just bought as he was a previous owner. Anyway we had a great chat and he was telling me about the problems he had with the car pictured below which he used to own. It was an Ex police car but still had the original livery. It was difficult to register but he found a DMV somewhere where they had no clue what POLIZEI meant and they let it go through. Maybe someone here knows the car and the owner and you could contact him. A facinating gentleman with loads of great stories

That is my old car! Picture taken by the Great South Bay here on Long Island. A friend now owns her. That car was built as a US showcar and was never put in service. It was no problem to register it. Back in the day when it was used as a dealer display car they would have to cover the light when using it. E mail me direct and I can inform you if you really doi have a police car DAhearn67@gmail.com
