New pacel shelf - how to afix

I just purchased a new Parcel Shelf.

I purchased my car as a rolling chasis so its difficult to work out how things go back together!

I have no idea how this PS attaches to the body of the car. I assume that the three steel prongs go into the bottom receivers. But how does the "center bar" (per image), with the four holes attach to the body of the car. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, the 3 bottom prongs fit into the receivers. The 4 slots that are cut into the top surface of the parcel shelf (see your 1st pic), slip over the 4 prongs that are located on the top surface. (You can see them in my pic below.) These prongs should have speed nuts on them. Once your parcel shelf is slipped over these 4 top prongers, the prongs stick through far enough for the speed nuts to be exposed. The trim piece then fits over all of the prongs, with the trim piece holes facing to the rear of the car. The trim piece is attached to the prongs using screws and trim washers. (see pic two for trim piece orientation) There are also two raised brackets towards the back of the top surface of the shelf. You can see them peeking out through my sound deadener foam. These have two tapped holes in each. They are used to mount the rear luggage strap brackets, which also hold the rear of the parcel shelf down.

Hmm.... I have a '66.
I don't have the four top prongs on my car. It is dead flat with some screw holes - I assume for seat belts. Would this mean that I need to fabricate and weld these brackets to my parcel shelf? What a PIA if I do!

Does anyone know why I would be missing these top prongs?

Al could I trouble you for a close up?

Now im really confused. My parcel has no brackets for the trim peice at the bend. Do I need to maufacture new brackets? Or is there a better way. My car is a '66. I'm assuming my parcel shelf is an earlier version.... I also dont have the two raised brackets towards the back of the top surface of the shelf for affixing the straps.

Does anyone have a close up image of the brackets at the bend? This will help me make some up if thats what i need to do...

My PS does have three of these slits (in red)... They do not match the four slits that came with my PS.

Sorry, those pix were taken during the resto and my 71E now resides in Paris. Let me make a suggestion. Before you start fabbing and welding, PM Rich Lambert, who also has a 66, and ask him how the shelf is installed. He may have some pix of his parcel shelf, taken during his resto work and/or info regarding the installation details.

I am working on a 69 car and it looks like the rear shelf and bar are the same as yours. Here are some close ups, front and rear facing, of the tabs that you need to fab up and weld on. They are somewhat 3 dimensional, I guess for strength, but I don't think that is necessary. If you use thick steel and fold it at a 90 degree angle, then weld it on, that should be pretty strong. I would suggest maybe mocking up the whole assembly on wood so that your tabs line up with the parcel bar's holes. Hope that helps you.

I was tempted to grind my tabs off and carpet the rear deck since I bought an RS carpet set, but I decided to recover my rear shelf and parcel bar. I think it looks better to have the shelf in there. SmileWavy

The crossbar for the pacel shelf cover appears to be to wide. Only by half an inch. Are swb's slightly narrower at the rear or do I have a dodgy shelf (brand new) cross bar.
