How to access the heat lever microswitch?
 

I continue to hunt down the reason why the motor mounted heater blower on the '88 cab is dead. I have checked the fuse in the front boot (good) and tested the fuse/switch block in the engine bay (good relay and fuses). Seems there is no power to the fan from the interior. I now need to check the microswitches tripped by the heat levers in the center console. Can anyone point me to some instructions/lessons learned on how to access the microswitches in the console?

manual heat levers or electric?

If auto heat......just 4 screws (bolts) hold it to the tunnel.
Easiest to remove the passenger seat for better access.

is there power to the relay?

Typically, and I am not sure about the 911, the lever is actuating a ground circuit.
remove the console and remove the lever...if there is a switch, its in the tunnel and its part of the lever handle setup...so pull lightly or you will pull off the wire.

On the 914, its a dirty, corroded mess.
A bit of cleaner and it works like new.

I have yet to tackle this problem so please share when you figure it out... :)

This is what your will find at the levers. You might be able to see the switches and connectors thru the slot for the hand brake/levers and reconnect the connector if it came off. If is the switch (broken or slipped), removing the cover is you best (only?) bet.

Also, If you do remove the cover, and you have manual heat, there will be an unused connector in there I believe.

It is manual heat. I will use your advice, check it out, take pictures and get back to you.

I did as Pete suggested. Removed the heat control console by removing the four allen screws, disconnected the two white plastic elec connectors feeding the heat console, and lifted the console up and forward over the ebrake handle and heat levers while gently pulling the footwell control wire and connector under the carpet and out. With the console off and out, I checked the microswitch for mechanical problems. Seemed fine and tested positive continuity to the connector.
Thanks for your advice on this. My heater blower problem turned out to be the engine bay relay. Go figure.
