A/C question for R22Tech or other experts
Can anyone tell me what the high and low side pressure readings should be for my A/C? Car is an '88 coupe with the original system (Nippondenso compressor) if it makes a difference. I'm not experiencing any problems now - knock on wood - but when I eventually have to recharge the system I want to do it correctly. And, yes, I have a section 609 license to buy R-12. Why do I feel like the refrigerant market must be like the crack market http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif

Hey i'm no expert, but I am working on my 88 a/c sys right now. With the advice of r22tech, he said, and this is no quote, the high side should be around the 150psi range.
And the low side around 30psi. ------------------ Derk Pitt 88 Carrera Coupe |
Thanks, Derk, for your reply! Hey, what's an AMT?
(A dope slap to the side of my own head!!!) I just looked in the Bentley manual again and found the specs: at 25 degrees C. ambient and 2000 rpm Low side....12 - 30 psi High side...115 - 205 psi in the event that anyone else has a need to know. ------------------ Rod Walter '88 911 coupe [This message has been edited by Rod Walter (edited 07-15-2001).] |
Those figures are correct-I charge mine with the RPM around 2700 though. 30/150 ave. psi
NOTE: Always charge and check pressure with the decklid CLOSED, in case you forgot. |
Rod,
An AMT may be an Aviation Maintenance Tech... aircraft mechanic. Did it for many years... JA |
You are correct, Sir!

Hey, Derk. How's the a/c doing? Just wanted to thank you for the sleeve/duct. It worked like a charm and now I have much more air velocity coming into the cabin!
|
Thanks, Joe and R22tech, for the info. I won't forget to close the decklid (I hope).
Derk, working on the 911 must seem like a piece of cake considering the tolerances and records required for aircraft. Joe, why did you leave that career? I understand that there is a shortage of good people in that line of work. ------------------ Rod Walter '88 911 coupe |
Well this is my first Porsche. And it's a little different. I finally got a new dryer.
But the truck's at the body shop getting a little sheet metal [opps]. Should have it back tomorrow. Maybe this weekend I'll put in the dryer and vacuum it down, [all day]. ------------------ Derk Pitt 88 Carrera Coupe |
Rod,
Was forced, kicking and screaming out of doing aircraft maintenance! Some jerk forced me into the right seat of the airplane and told me I was now a copilot. That was in 1983 and now for some reason people think that I can fly the things! You are totally correct. If you know of anyone who wants a good career, aviation maintainence and repair is a very good field, especially if you are either computer or electronics friendly. Home every night and its a very good job. Salaries are coming up as there is a extreme shortage of experienced people in the field now. I was an teacher and examiner with AMT's for a while and may go back into this area when I get tired of staying in hotel rooms all the time! I still restore old fabric airplanes for a hobby just to keep my sanity. Take care, Joe |
Derk,
Pls let me know if you see a real difference with the new dryer in the system. I have a new one stashed in the garage that I was going to save for when I switch over to R134 and am curious... JA |
Wow, a mechanic friendly pilot, great to meet one of those.
After looking in to the A/C sys on 911's. I see know reason that the air shouldn't be as cold or even colder than other cars [ricers]. I'll let you know how it works out. ------------------ Derk Pitt 88 Carrera Coupe |
