Looking for tool to remove door hinge pins for 911
Hi.
I am looking for the correct tool to tap out and remove the door hinge pins on a 70 911. There must be a tool out there made for this. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Peter peterperry911113@gmail.com |

Was just doing that same project this afternoon...replacing the door stay on the passenger side. Check to see if you have a clip on the pin on the underside of the hinge-if so pull it out with pliers. From there, place a block of hardwood underneath and tap upwards with a hammer...(lots of taps)... Once it moved, I slid a putty knife between the hinge top and the underside of the pin head and worked it up, moving progressively to larger pry tools. If you're replacing the door stay, loosen the two bolts holding it to the door...it will relieve the side pressure on the pin.

Some photos I pinched from... P 290, Door pin removal tool
What I like about this tool is that it "pulls" on the pins rather than "pushing" them from the other side. I've seen a L shaped tool used with a drift hammer to do the same job. ![]() ![]()

Porsche still lists P290 as available through their parts system, current retail price $272. Attachment P290a, for removing rollpins on post-'73 door stays, still available at $55 retail. The spare attachment for hinge pins, P290b, is no longer available.
