Too much slack in my clutch cable
I'm in the process of putting in a new clutch cable on my '74 with an '83SC motor and trans in it. I got the old cable out no problem, then laid it on the ground next to the new one to compare and they were virtually identical, length wise. I installed the new one, and made all the Bentley listed adjustments. Problem now is there is just way too much slack in the pedal travel. The first 3 inches of movement are loose, like, connected to nothing loose. I then adjusted the clovis so it was all the way screwed down on the cable, which caused little-to-no change. I got under the car and adjusted the travel of the cable there to where it is nearly as far forward as possible. All that and the pedal still doesn't rest on the cluster stop with the brake pedal.
Any ideas on what I might have done wrong? How much, if any, slack is the clutch pedal suppose to have? My first clutch cable felt taut from the moment you put your foot on the pedal. Not so with the new one... |

On my 84 I had the same problem. check the position of the Omega spring on the trans, it can be in two positions, the correct one is with the back of the spring right up against the heat exchanger, if in the other position, snap it over with a large screwdriver.

Is this the correct position? This is what it currently looks like.

Can anyone confirm the above pictures shows the proper position of the omega spring? Thanks, this clutch cable issue is killing me and leaving the car up on stands much longer than I ever intended!
