Ouch! Curb hit costs $7,500!
Thought you guys would appreciate this... and watchout for those curbs!
I hit a curb in a parking lot with my left front corner. Visually, it took out the valance, lip and wheel. I thought it would be no big deal and I could pick stuff up for around $700 used and have it all back together. Upon closer inspection, my wrench had it up in the air and told me that the lower control arm was bent. So I took it to a Porsche body specialist and it looks like the whole tower portion of the tub has been pushed about an inch and a half. Allstate is being real big about the whole thing, and $7500 later my car will hopefully be intact again. I've learned that these things are pretty fragile when taking a corner hit. Be careful!

I understand it's expensive to fix that kind of damage, but the estimate seems grossly over any semblance of reason even considering that it needs some "frame work". Just me 2 cents.

I thunked another Pathfinder about 4-5 years ago with mine, and the damage total came out to be $5500. I couldn't believe it, but they replaced a lot of things that were 'bumped'. No frame straightening.
I'm much more careful when I shave in the car now... ![]() -Wayne

I totally agree with Orb. Yes, "rack" time is expensive, but not that expensive! Assuming you did this in the `84, that figure might exceed half of the car's total value! It sounds like your shop is using this oportunity to gouge the insurance company. You might use this oportunity to see if your insurance co. would consider totaling the car, and letting you buy it back. If you crunch some numbers, it might be worth it. Just my $.01.

A month ago, something similar happened to me : I sild on the snow and hit the border of a curb. Damage : replace wheel, cap, hub, strut, spindle, bearing...basically everything has been replaced on my right front, except the braking system. Total cost : around $1400.
Oh, BTW, I was driving my Honda Civic. I am sooo glad I was not driving my 911 SC this evening ! ![]() This kind of hit on a Porsche would kill me, when you think it is about the price of an engine & transmission rebuilt !!!! So, I sympathize ! |

Hmmm, I hadn't thought of a total and then a buyback. I'd have a salvage title then, wouldn't I?
Damage also includes: new lip: $425 fuchs wheel: $688 repair and repaint: valance, bumper, fender and hood all the seals associated with fender removal suspension parts 4 wheel align rack time
