Has any one done a "lifted" rally car?

I have decided that my swb 912 will be a lot more fun if I don't lower it down and make it un fun to drive on Interior Alaska's roads. Has anyone done a moderate ride height adjust or even spring shock change to gain a little altitude. I am thinking this car will be built in an "R" vein with a little more nod to the Paris Dakar crowd.

Also if any one can point me to or cares to share some photo's of early cars of this style I would be most appreciative.

Steven Harris' swb rally car is gorgeous, like all his 911's.

Nothing as exotic as ER are doing, just lifted the Torsion bar adjusters in front and raised up the rear. RSR style strut brace, long rear dampers too. The tall 14" rubber helps add extra to it. The rest is early 911 rally stuff, seats, gearbox, engine, etc... The front is a lot higher than the back which is the way they were set-up back in the day if you look at pics..

I have been tossing the same idea around in my head. I have a set of Fuchs with winter tires and was contemplating raising it a bit and adding some rally lights and other goodies.

Where are you located? I am near Fairbanks at Eielson AFB.

I just read about this journey in a mag , 912 and all!

The Car

London to Saigon and all that went wrong was
"1x Parking light bulb
1x Headlight switch burnt out
Distributor points closed up several times"

SC-RS type car is purrfect for Alaska!

be sure to stick a bunch of fiberglass or plastic panels all over the underside and the banana arms to intercept the gravel

I grew up in Alaska Driving a bug everyday ( winters too) it was great... you get used to looking out the side window for two reason, one that is most likely the direction you are going ( Big controlled tail happy slides ) and two it was most likely the only one you could keep defrosted. I was just thinking that a set of 15" "Steelies" and some studs... or heck maybe even Blizzaks ( I ran em all one winter on a third gen camaro and they are surprisingly good) and I would have a decent unusual sporty daily driver. I have been saving this old 912 for "someday" long enough... the RS has been done to death and I don't have the engine to back it up anyway .. thinking a light narrow agile little car might be more fun for what I do anyway. Just because it is not going to be an RS does not mean that I cant be a little fastidious in the repair/resto phase... tower braces, rear hoop, center fill tank and all of the trick detail weight reduction tricks.

OK I need to start collecting Idea's as to just what needs to go into this little bugger

Pretty sure the lightweight RS interior most likely avoid the Plexi window as a concession to scratching and real cold weather I love the seats on JoeBlow's car.... Hmmm anyone have other Idea's

Oh and yeah I am in the Eielson area as well.

Would safari Bars be too out of line on a longhood ? or should I just stick with through hood light mounting ?

Thanks all for the inspiration and comments.

I think this question has been asked a bunch of times. I asked a few month ago and found more than I expected. TRE made a couple nice ones.
