G50 Clutch mystery - over-engaged? Cross art hitting PP?

Hi Guys

I posted a while back about a clanging heard when the clutch pedal is fully depressed. Some commented its likely the cross arm hitting the pressure plate leafs and to adjust the pedal stop and check the length of the pedal to MC arm. I have done both.

The clevis arm, measured as shown below, looks right on at approx 158mm per Bentley.

The pedal stop was at min extension and is now at full extension. When I press the pedal all the way down I still hear a faint clanging

One more wrinkle which may or may not be related: Over 5000 rpm I got what felt like slipping a few times. I couldn't repeat the condition today and I never smelled any clutch-burn. I know the G50 clutch is "not adjustable" but its as though the slave is pre-set semi-disengaged which explains it hitting the PP at full pedal and maybe not letting the clutch ever fully engage.

I usually think of a faulty slave / air in the system as causing the opposite... a clutch that won't DISengage.

Other stuff: 10k ago I replaced the clutch & PP with a sachs spring center and it has driven perfectly ever since. I also did the recommended cross arm update.

So if you don't push the pedal all of the way down, does the clutch disengage and do you hear clanging then?

The 158 mm's is clevis to Clutch MC flange, not inside of pedal assy bracket, right?

Yes, if i push the pedal less than all the way down, no clanging and clean shifts, so it must be disengaging.

Yes 158mm is to the mc flange but my understanding is that the flange is tight to the pedal assy so im only 1mm off by measuring to the pedal assy.

I'd double check that thickness if you have some calipers or a micrometer, I'm certain the pedal assy is thicker than 1 mm. Probably not much, but just saying, if you're over-extending. You could adjust it just a tad so it wouldn't hit even if you did mash the pedal.

Good call everyone - measured the clutch MC rod a bit more accurately and was seeing it a tiny bit long. The tolerance is is +/- 1mm and I was seeing in the n'hood of 160mm so I pulled it back 3mm, shooting for 157mm (spec is 158mm).

No more grinding sound.
