seat switch replacement

i have an 87 911 cabriolet with two seat switchs on the drivers
seat only. they are the up/down type not the four arrow. the
switch is intermittant in its operation and the rear doesn't function at all. has anyone replaced these and have any advise before i
tear into it? I will be having some leather reair done this coming
week and it will be an opportune time to get the gremlins out
and I'm excited to find out what the rear switch does! I also
have a "lazy" drivers window that is intermittant in its
operation and if theres any secrets to that fix please chime in.
thanks keith

Easy to replace - kind of hard to repair.

1. Take out seat.
2. Cut off plastic straps that hold switch wires to seat.
3. Take out screws and switches pull right out.

New ones are around $50 each - I bought a used one for $25.
My old one was physically broken. The new used one did not work either so I had to piece together a good one using parts from the two old switches. I got to know these switches very well.
Really helps to have some additional hands if you decide to repair.

Take your old ones apart and clean out the corrosion and the sticking 'balls'. Grease up the balls and springs and good luck getting all the pieces together on the first try.
Make sure you work on a big flat clean area because you will drop the 'balls' probably a few times. You have to balance the ball on the spring and snap the plastic box back together. This is where the extra hands help. Its tricky but can be done - or just blow a hundy on some new ones.
