Brake noise

Just replaced pads and the pistons on both front calipers were a struggle to push back to get the new pads in. Now I have a dragging noise when I trun the front wheels either way for a moment and then it goes away. Sounds to me like its caliper rebuild time. Any ideas?

Toga:

Since I don't know what you have done to this point, I would do the following:

Start car and pump brakes gently (brake booster now in the loop). Turn car off, and see if pads still rub. If they do (sometimes this is normal with new pads) all you can do is get the brakes hot (if you are really worried do it in a parking lot) and see if one side or the other is pulling when the brakes are applied hard and at a decent speed. Even if you don't get any pulling, jack the car up as soon as you get home and check to see if the wheels will turn. If one or both are locked, look to replace rubber brake lines if they are old. Might as well rebuild calipers too since bleeding will be nessesary when lines are replaced.

If all of the above fails, probably need a master cylinder.

Hope this helps.

Hi Toga,

I think you'll find that this is normal. You should feel/hear some drag when you are turning the wheels.

Mine certainly did after I replaced my discs & pads.

Cheers,

Tim.
