Seeking the correct paint
So (one of) my summer project(s) this year will be to refurb a Turbo tail I purchased late last year. The deck-lid is steel, tail is FG with the normal stress cracks in the compound curves. I have a bit of experience with FG and have a friend who will be helping (used to work at a body shop).
I've got most everything I need except the right paint. I will have to paint the tail (and a front spoiler, more on that when that project comes) and would like matching paint. The problem is, here in CA, it is difficult to buy most paints. RTS lacquer can be had in 1 pint cans at your FLAPS for $21.99, but I want the paint to be correct. Where can I go in SoCal/OC/LA to get the correct color and correct medium? Lacquer or Enamel, or Poly? I'll probably need a total of 3 pints (to be safe) and the black lip I will get a black "rubberized" type of medium (undecided on that, yet). Where can I go? Thanks.

5723 Atlantic Ave LONG BEACH, CA 90805 (562)428-3648 http://www.wholesaler.com/r&rpaint Glasurit 22 line (single stage urethane with hardener) is what you would use if you have original paint.. These guys should know for sure. Found it on the Glasurit site - Dealer Locator. - Nothing in Costa Mesa. You will need primer, hardeners (probably two types), reducer, and color. It won't be inexpensive. You may also want to get an etching primer for the metal if you are going all out. PS - there is a body and paint forum in PP that should have some more info but if you have a pal that can shoot you should have it covered. Last edited by Bob Kontak; 06-20-2011 at 12:09 PM.. |

As of 3-4 years ago, it was on a county by county basis. I have bought paints in Grass valley and even Sacramento that were not available in Marin. Pitsburgh has some really good enamel matches. Personally, I have had bad experiences with Glasurit (55?). I had a car painted twice by different painters and ended up selling it due to the paint.

If you are talking of the Glasurit website, it still is by country. I just drilled down and loaded in Long Beach as that is close to Costa Mesa.
I wonder if 22 line is even sold in CA? 55 line is poly basecoat. |
