Question Prob holding caliper pins...Any secrets???

...ive been reading this forum for quite a while, using all of you as a tool to help me through a complete brake re-do on my 1988 carrera cab...new rotors, pads, retainer kits SS lines, bearings in the front, etc...i ended up having to rebiold the calipers as welll - those pesky rear dust covers!!!anyhow, the pins are having the damnedest time staying popped into the lateral side of each of the calipers, and therefore, the brakes arent feeling right...should they be lubed so the pads slide more a fight less or does that run too much of a risk ending up in the pads and rotors???
...also, is there a certain orientation for the front glue on brake pad sensors???red strip to the front, back, left or right???and do you just plop the adhesive into the companion hole in the brake pad, or what???i realize these sensors arent popular, but i like keeping everything tight and right...
thanks for any help...i refuse to give in to a mechanic for what i can do by myself...

I can't speak to the sensors, I never used them! But the pins should fit in snuggly by hammering them in all the way until they are flush. If they still back out, then you need new ones. Do not use any lube, just makes it easier to back off. The head of those pins should go all the way in to the back of the caliper.

BTW, first post = posting a picture of your car and a basic intro....Hi My name is AaRon and I'm a Porsche-aholic.

I not sure if I understand you correctly. There were two types of Brakepad sensors that were available for the 911. One was like a Pin and other a Ushaped Clip. Depending on what type of Pads you have you need the correct sensors but both are fitted to the corresponging pad withour Glue

This is the clip type and corresponding pad

The pin type had no recesses in the pads.

Both are just pushed into the hole in the pads

If I am reading this correctly, your problem is with the retaining pins that pass over the retaining spring. I do the top pin first. Insert through outer caliper hole gripping end first pass it over retaining spring and get it started in hole on other side of caliper. Use a proper diameter punch and tap it in tight. For the lower pin push on retaining spring with screwdriver to relieve pressure and repeat steps above. No grease. Same punch can be used to remove pins. I have clip on wear sensors so someone else will have to chime in on that problem.
