First post, Second time - Plus seeking advise...
 

Hi Im AaRoN, and i disregarded the proper etiquette for initial posts...sorry, my frustration got the best of my modesty...
...back in 1979, when i was 5 years old, my dad brought home his mid-life crisis - a bright yellow 1966 porsche 912...i remember it being noisy compared to the oldsmobile cutlass cierra wagon and small relative to moms 1967 camaro SS...but i got to sit in the front...cool bananas!!!
...he practically gave it to me by the time i was 18 - for $2000...i understand perfectly why...it was a headache that you couldnt get enough of...an addiction...a money-pit that offered help as you dug deeper and deeper...by 2005, the coastal san francisco fog had gotten to the lil' girl in a few tiny patches of rust, my wife and i had a newborn baby boy, and it no longer had a cozy garage to live in...so we sold it - very begrudgingly - to a friend with the promise we had first crack at it should he ever sell it...2 weeks later, he rolled it down into a ravine somewhere in the windy hills of napa valley...

...then works brings me (us) to the hell-A area, and driving enjoyment calls out to me more...what else is there down here???i wind up with a 1988 carrera cabriolet that i spotted on ebay, being sold by someone 15 minutes away!!!after years of scouring craigslist for a porsche, i end up with the exact model i had a poster of in my room back in 1988...it just took me 22 years to afford - i mean - find it!!!
...so, like my fathers mid-life crisis, i intend to do all the maintenance and work that i can on it, and right now, its those pesky brake retaining pins that lead me to post...they are brand new, i have pounded the in to the hilt, brakes feel good at first, then a smidgen off, so a check finds that they (all 8 of them) are coming out of their popped in position...
...i have just completed an entire brake system re-do with new everything...no leaks, good feelings, but front sensors for the porsche front pads are the glue-in type...anyone know if orientation with regards to the red stripe along the wire has any importance???and do you just stuff the adhesive down the companion hole in the brake pad, or is there more of a science to it...
...im 37 years old, and i want to spend more time with my wife, rather than my high maintenance mistress porsche, gretchen...

OK, you say the pins are not staying and are new.

Culprit, the P/O may have done the same as you and POUNDED them to the HILT and caused the retaining hole to widen out. :eek:

Solution: New Calipers ...... NOT

Take a look at the pins at the ends where the compression type roll pins are and just widen them a bit to take up the slack.

This time gently tape Gretchen's heels in ;), until the head with the roll pin is flush and no further. The smaller tip should just protude. That's it.

If you have the old pins check the OD on the news to it, I bet all the POUNDING AWAY has flattened the end out a bit.

...thanks for the ideas...being the nostalgic pack-rat that i am, i kept the old pins that i replaced, and gave them a try...upon first close inspection, i found the old pins were an half a hair longer, with the chubbies on the back end a bit stumpier - more compressed, that is...i replaced them and - ta-da - no more wandering...maybe i got a couple lemon sets, i dunno...but i didnt pound away at them, i just tapped a bit harder after each little test drive...
...oh, and regarding the westphalia, we love it too...it has taken us on road trips covering the whole wild west, colorado river to pacific ocean...thanks everyone...you'll hear from me again...
