Mid-rise lift option
If you had the choice, which would you prefer, a scissor type mid-rise lift or a portable two post mid-rise lift?
I was exploring that interweb thingy this evening, and stumbled upon this mid-rise two post lift that you can unbolt from the floor anchors and move somewhere out of the way. Each of the uprights weigh about 300 pounds so they're not exactly throw-it-in-the-back-of-the-truck size, but it might reduce the issues that some have with full height two posters. Check it out at Max Jax site and tell me what you think. ![]()

have a midrise scissors lift
My mid rise is rock solid, not sure about the 2 post temporary,,,, unless you have deep concrete pads with through bolt stainless anchors i would not get under it.

Having just finished doing a bodyjob on my 69 I can say that my scissor lift was my best friend. True you do not have access to the underside but their is nothing their anyway. With a two post you lose the ability to work inside the car at a workable height. Mine has wheel on one end and can be moved with the power pack. It sits outside if not in use.

Looks to be safe with it bolted to the floor. Seems to be somewhat endorsed by Jay Leno. There is a video of him using it on the manufacturer's website: MaxJax Portable Two Post Lift - Dannmar Equipment
I wonder what the cost is??? Edit: MSRP $2,399, but it looks like you can get it for $2,000.

I've had a scissor lift for about 9 months. One of the main reasons I bought it was that I found it locally on Craigslist and the seller delivered it to my garage! As many have stated before me, it is the best tool I own. You will LOVE either option because they are both far better than using a floor jack and jackstands! I looked at the Max Jax seriously. I think it is a great 2 post option. Someone on this site has one (I can't remember who it is - maybe try a search) and he liked it from what I can remember. I think the ONLY negative that I have found w/my scissor lift is the fact that it requires ramps on either side in order for my car to drive over it. The ramps and the lift itself do take up space and do require that you work around them. However, I don't have the extra storage space in my garage to store the Max Jax pieces when not in use either so. . . everything's a compromise.

Hey Kevin,
I am looking for the same set up as well. Did you locate a dealer in the Edmonton area or would you be ordering from the US? Tyrone _______________ 87 Carrera Coupe |

I don't know of anyone in Edmonton specifically that has these. Babco Equipment is one place that is in Canada, though it is likely to be back east. Anyone who carries Daanmar lifts can get it.
BTW, nice to see someone else here from Deadmonton.

Take a look at Princess Auto's web site catalog, I believe they carry this lift, or a similiar one.

Yes, it's there. Thanks.
I often forget about Princess Auto. Lots of other goodies there, too.

I have a MaxJax and love it. Been using it for about 8 months. I went with a 2 post because I couldn't really work on the Audi S4 (quattro) with a scissor lift. Plus I liked the idea of being able to roll the posts out of the way. Haven't had the Porsche on it yet since I have been working on the Audi for the winter..."incident" at Road Atlanta
![]() If you want to go this route and are not sure about the slab, get a long 1/4" masonry drill, and drill a pilot hole to check the concrete thickness. I have a concrete contractor friend that came by with a tool (kind of a gun) that checks the psi of the concrete. Find a good commercial concrete contractor, and he should have one that can check your slab. Obviously, proper installation of the anchors is paramount. The first lift with the Audi (3600 lb) I pushed and shook it and it was solid. Took the posts down and checked the achors and they were secure. I always inspect at each install and before I get under it though. My garage is a converted carport so it is a little small. I have two bolt-down locations. One I can lift with the garage door closed, the other gives me more room inside (for pulling Audi engine) but the garage door must be open. It is an 8 ft ceiling so I had to remove the light fixture you see to get full 48" lift height and to be able to use the lift safety bars. Took a full day to install. Rented the hammer drill from Home Depot. Probably more info than you wanted, but let me know if you have any more questions. Lift in "closed door" location ![]() Car at lower safety bar location - great for working on brakes, suspension, etc ![]()

Bumping an old thread here.
I am thinking of getting a MaxJax and wanted to know what your inside post to inside post measurements were for a 911? Any difficulties using it on a 911?
