Engine stalls when depressing clutch
I have a 3.0 liter in my 1977 911S which starts great but after 10 minutes of driving the engine light will flash and the engine will stall, when I depress the clutch. Has anyone got any ideas what could be causing this.

What engine light....alternator or oil pressure.

The red light is on the pressure/temp guage and the light has a little G under it

What RMP does it idle at?
Should be at 950 |
Hi Pete
Engine idles at about 1000 |
No idea. Can you give a bit more info, like was it running fine this season and just started doing this? Did you recently have some work done? When was the last tune up - why is the idle set high? Does this happen every time (100% repeatable for the exact same conditions)?
This comes off as quite unusual, so you may get a better response if you give more details or background. My guess is that there is a tuning issue and the stalling may be coincidental with the clutch disengagement. Any other clues you could offer would be helpful. |
i would check the wiring near the clutch pedal and under the car near the clutch linkage

That is a 77?! Beautiful car!!
The only advice I can offer is to possibly search here for stalling or idle issues that other 3.0 folks have. Sorry for the lame response, but I think that is what you are looking at if you have to blip or rev it to keep her going. Mine is a 3.2 and after 3 yrs I am still learning - and our fuel systems are different. One guess could be a vacuum leak, or fuel issues (like crud in the filter, tank or lines, especially after 3 yrs). If it's really a turbo, then I definitely am not your guy. hth |
Sounds like it could be a bit rich.

but changed to a 1996 993 Super Turbo Wide Body (BUT NOT A TURBO) just a 3.0 liter 4 speed. I will check around for stalling and idle issues. Thanks for trying |
Try your grounds I had a old GM car that would stall when I put the clutch in and it was a broken ground strap.
