I'm sold on Kendall gear oil.

I just drained out the old gear oil, actually it was Swepco Synth, that was in my 915 gearbox.
I poured in some Kendall gear oil and what a difference it made... unbelieveable. I'm probably gonna put off that 915 rebuild for a while now.
Thank for the advice Peter Zimmerman.

The Kendall was NS-MP Gear Lube. I'm not sure which Swepco it was, that was a long time ago... I think it was 201, but i'm not 100% certain. The old stuff was probably 3 years and 75k miles old. Also when I drained the old stuff it was still blue in color.

Can you describe the improvement? I just put swepco 201 blue in my 915 just awhile ago, and did not notice any improvement.
Mine is stubborn going into second sometimes. No grinding, just a two-part pull.
Or is that normal? It's fine for me now, but can I make it better with Kendall?

Scotricker, you just described my 915 trans. Second gear is still kind of tricky but putting in the Kendall really improved it. Sometimes as I shift into second, as I pull back on the shifter, I have to slide it to the right or left just a little for it to engage second gear. It also helps if I shift between 3 and 4 grand on the tach.
Overall the improvement is shifting through the gears with greater ease.
Also, make sure you clutch cable is properly adjusted.

I just did the Swepco 201 to Kendall NS-MP Gear Lube switch. It is nothing short of amazing. My trans was almost always notchy. I would say 1 in 5 times I would need to double clutch the 1-2 shift.

New fluid, almost always smooth, 1 in 5 times notchy. Also will defer my rebuild.

I got my Kendall from Amazon if you can believe it. Wayne, please start carrying this stuff.

I have tried the kendal on several p-cars w/ noticable improvements in shifting & 2 folks decided to put off a trans rebuild & that was 1 yr ago... (901 & 915 trans...)

Thx also to Pete for the heads up...

Bob

FYI, he does carry it, but for some reason you won't find it using the search function on the catalog. (maybe the parts indexing is outdated?)

However, if you go to the home page, select 911 catalog, you will see a link for Gear Lube under the transmission section, and you'll find both LSD and Non-LSD Kendall.

I have 4 qts of the Kendall ordered from our host arriving tomorrow (I hope). I will change it this weekend and post results. My trans is very notchy into 1st and 2nd. Bushings looked fine on visual inspection but I ordered new ones anyway. I plan to do the oil first and see how she drives. Not a Kendall v. Swepco deal as I have no idea what's in there now.

Agreed not a Kendall vs Swepco.

I do suggest changing it out twice to flush the old stuff out completely.

Good thought as the existing oil could be as old as the car. Draco how many miles would you drive between the two flushes?

I just found out my order was "delayed" at pp and I'm on jackstands for the long weekend, grrrr.

3.25 quarts or to insure proper levels,

When car is level, it starts dripping out the fill port on the side. After few 100 miles check level again. Top off or let it drip out until it slows.
