just a quick question for my 79SC

I drove it a bit harder this morning than normal, no traffic, turns around the tech center etc...

After I parked it in my parking garage, I looked back and saw smoke coming out of the tail pipe sort of a clearish white smoke. Just a little, then nothing then a bit of smoke again then that was it.

I never saw it do that before?? normal?

So car was not running and you saw a bit of whitish smoke from the exhaust pipe?

Short answer, no, it's not normal to see whitish smoke from the exhaust pipe after shut down.

Was the car completely warmed up? That was assumed in your post but it has to be asked as what you saw could have been residual water vapor from the engine--very normal.

If the car was at running temp, then what you saw could be smoke from oil in the exhaust--possibly from a full oil tank allowing oil to be sucked into the intake during the hard driving you did, especially if you did sharp turns. If that's the case, it should burn away and you will not see it any more if your oil level is correct.

Finally, are you certain the smoke was from the inside of the tail pipe? Otherwise it could be oil leaking onto the head exchangers and burning off.

White smoke is usually water vapors...steam.

If it's just burning off residual drips of stuff..no big deal.

Doesn't sound like you have a problem. It starts and runs fine? Just drive it then.

ok, good, yes I hoit the turn before my parking garage at about 40MPH then shut it off and walked away within a minute after that. Yes car was fully warmed up. drove it about 20-30 minutes to work. Just drove it again, and it drove perfectly. So I think i'm in the clear. I did just put oil in it last night as it was low.
