1985 carrera aftermarket alarm system
Has anyone added an aftermarket alarm system to their 911?
Mine has the factory alarm, but I'd like a remote to lock/unlock the doors & arm the alarm. Has anyone had another alarm installed on their 1985? Any recommendations on an alarm system? Can the alarm remote actually lock/unlock the doors (seeing as I need a key to lock the drivers door?)? thanks! Tim |

Hi Tim,
I've got an aftermarket alarm on my 1985 911 carrera coupe. It's made by Serpi Star vehicle security systems. Features: - remote central locking - panic mode - bonnet push-buttons (perimetric protection) - voltage drop - ultrasonic sensors (volumetric protection) - shock sensor - optic and acoustic signals - car check - led memory - enigine immobilization - siren with internal battery - emergency key - siren sound type - remote arming with closure of windows and sunroof It works very well. I'm sure there are lots of aftermarket alarms which will fit your Porsche with the same features. Kees.

Just be prepared to use a battery maintainer if you dont drive it at least once a week in the winter.

Current absorption at 12 V is only 7 mA.

Tim..I used a Viper. Most alarms have all the options. I deal w/Rod Birch at Car Audio Innovations in Calif. 1-800-892-6430. Alarm is about $125. I got the remote pager for maybe another $75-$100. He is the best in US for 911's, IMO. He gave me a diagram specific to my '77. And yes my auto locks are triggered by alarm beeper.

You will need to add what are called actuators if your doors are not power locks. If they are you still may need to add and actuator...

The Viper is tapped into power lock system, with no actuators

I've got an 83 cab with manual locks and have been considering the same thing - is it a really big deal to add the actuators to make the locks automatic?
Any hints for the install? |

Mine has an Alpine 8046 alarm system. The key fob does the door lock and all the rest but I like the "perimeter" sensor feature best.
With a cab it's just too easy to rip open a hole in the roof - I would rather the alarm go off before any damage occurs. Recommend it highly.
