early 3 spoke "sport wheel" question...
What's the quick and easy way of telling if it's a 'real' early '74-'75 Carrera 3 spoke Steering wheel...
OR, a later SC "sport wheel" ????

The wheel center plate is stamped steel sheet on the later cheaper versions, vs a thick 1/8" plate on the early versions.
Then there are the big rim wheels that were hapahazardly distributed, sometimes picked for the race cars. Those are worth more. Want one? |

The rim or "grip" portion of the wheel is thicker than the later 3-spoke wheels. It's hard to tell just by looking at a photo of one. Easier to distinguish when placed side-by-side with a later one. The grip in this one is 32 mm.

quick & easy - the bottom spoke is about 1/4" longer - but the untrained eye would need to see the wheels side-by-side.
can't always tell by the thickness of the grip. my '77 930 non sport wheel had the same size grip as the '74 sport wheel I put in later. Bill K sport wheel \/ ![]()
