Weight of a fake Fuchs ?
Q: Anyone knows the exact weight of an American Eagle 15x6 fuchs repro?
Small dilemma... My 69 912 sits on 4 decent looking fake fuchs - says 15x6 in the back so I think they are American Eagle. Not a huge deal as the car is neither tracked nor cornered hard. I recently purchased another 912 with an extra set of steelies is "oaky" condition. I'm trying to figure out if I should bother swapping, weight wise. I know where the wheel weight spreadsheet is, but no mention of fake fuchs in there. I think the real ones in 5.5 or 6x15s are 12 lbs or so, steelies 20 lbs or so (ouch). I'm wondering if anyone per chance knows the weight of a fake fuch wheel ! They should be heavier than real ones... If it's close to the 20lbs of steelies, I may swap, try a different look, but on a ligth car with low(ish) HP, adding unsprung weight is not too smart. Does anyone know ? I'm not being lazy - I know I could taking one off, have a tire dismounted, etc... but that is just not practical right now as my garage is being remodeled and I don't have access to my scissor lift for another month. And I don't trust tire shops to lift my oldie... |

Greg,
That's exactly what I have, American Eagles. I missed the opportunity to weigh them when I had tires off for refinishing the wheels earlier this year. But I was surprised how light they are. I wouldn't think they were more than 15 pounds. They seem like a pretty good and well-made wheel to me. Mike

They are probably cast wheels, not forged like Fuchs.
Probably weigh about he same (or a bit heavier than) the steel wheels. |
