MSD Digital 6A
Has anyone tried the new Digital 6A MSD Box? Looks interesting, a little more spark with a little less draw. But still a big ol’ ugly red box, in fact it’s even a little bigger (thought digital allowed things to be smaller?) Contemplating using it on a V-12 application. Any input would be appreciated.

While I've not used the digital MSD's yet, I have had good luck dealing with the "red box syndrome" by VERY carefully masking off the delicate bits and soda blasting the case to achieve a natural aluminum finish that mimics the OEM Bosch unit. Doesn't look so garish to the eye,.... :) |
Steve, I like your idea (as usual)
Here in the south that is the only thing on my car the local boys can identify with!! :-) Regards |
I hear you Steve, I usually just repaint them black along with the coil and a Bosch or Porsche sticker wouldn't be a bad idea either...

The box should be mounted under the drivers seat so it isn't interfered with by stray electrics. Leave the old one in place if you're worried about the way it looks. Personally, I like the way the MSD performs compared to the Bosh unit. I have a buddy with twin Lambo V-12 in a 36' V-bottom boat that runs near 100mph. They turn 8 grand and seem to get the job done with MSD boxes and coils.

I installed the digital 6al in my '79. Seems to work just fine, but I have only about 100 miles on it so far. I like the easy plug in harness. Install was simple.

I have a Mallory digital Hyfire on my 3.0 and it's worked fine for a year now. I went with this one over the MSD because it was digital vs. analog.

Put a Digital 6AL on my 1980 SC and it works just fine :) definatly gave a bit more go.
