convertible to targa advice please

Hello Forum,

I have a 1980 911 sc that I was told by the previous owner used to be a coupe, but I tend to think that it was a targa.

I live in Tasmania, Australia, where it rains a lot, so I want to convert it back to a targa (or maybe coupe... but am thinking targa as I hope would be easier).

Please see below some photo's... did this used to be a targa or a coupe?

And if was a targa, what parts do I need to get it back to a point where I can install a hard targa roof (fibreglass one sold by pelican parts).

All advice greatly appreciated!

Many thanks
Andrew

What is your VIN as that will tell you what the car started out as. Also, I think there are a couple of hardtops for sale here on Pelican that should fit that car.

There was a fiberglass top for conversion to coupe in the for sale section not to long ago. I think it was about 2k, but then your going to need to have it shipped, which I'd guess isn't going to be cheap. I'd highly recommend converting it to coupe if you do anything at all. Although a cab back to targa might not be nearly as expensive.

If it were me, I'd just but a different car and forget all the trouble!

Hi Bryan
The VIN is 91A0143774.
How do I go about finding out if it was originally a coupe or targa from this?
Many thanks
Andrew

Hi Michael
Many thanks for you offer... unfortunately I am on the north west coast.
Cheers
Andrew

Hi Justin,
Thanks for your advice. My local body shop prefers working with steel than fibreglass... so if I go to coupe I'll go steel.
cheers
Andrew

A = 1980

91A0143774
O= Manufacture plant

91A0143774
1 = Targa
(O = coupe)

91A0143774
4= RoW SC (I think)

Ive removed my soft top... very easy & quick job!
So am now super keen to go back to original with a targa.
I will put a note in the classified section... but if anyone following this thread has a targa roof with all its bits that they want to sell or swap for a softtop, please let me know!
cheers
Andrew

Andrew, your cabriolet conversion looks to have been very nicely done. The clear plastic envelopes on the topside of the sun visors was where the original instructions for raising and lowering the top went.
