Need some practical advice concerning clutch ...

I've been over the tech articles and the past posts on this, but haven't found any clue as to how to solve the problem...I need to replace my clutch helper spring, but have run into a snag.

I can remove the circlip and small lever, and push the clutch lever forward, taking the tension off the helper spring, but I can't get the lever to come off the shaft.

It seems to rotate freely on the shaft, but won't slide off. I've tried WD 40, and I tried heating it up a bit. but neither worked. Any suggestions? I'm kind of stuck here.

Also, I replaced the clutch cable, but the new one, from performance parts, is about 1/2 inch shorter than the old, and it was difficult to install, with no slack remaining after. Do these things stretch a bit, and will I need to readjust it soon?

Thanks for any help.

My new clutch cable has stretched very little. German quality. I dunno how you'll get the big arm off it's shaft. Just make sure there is no roll pin or other retainer holding it on, and carefully pry/beat on it. At least that's what I'd try. the beating would be done gently with a soft hammer.

Perhaps you could get a puller on it.

Thanks for responding.

I'll look, but I don't think there is any pin of any sort in there.

Any other suggestions, anyone...anyone...

some early cars had a solid pin thru the long release arm that passed by a notch in the shaft. a pain to get out but not impossible. rust is usually the culprit otherwise.

Hello

Remove seegerring from shaft. pull little lever. watch for the rubberseal pull long lever, watch for the rubber seal.

To hook up the cable remove it from the carrier and go into the pedals pull the cluchpedal up and place a hammer or something else behind it. You also can pull the pedal up on the wire and if the helper spring is ok it will stay up.

Take a large wrench and use it as preybar to move the long rod forward. It will snap over to the other end from the dead position. If not remove the short lever to get more angle.

Then pull the end over the little hook and let the cable end snap in. Insert the cable back into the adjuster, hammer/prey on the lever to snap back and thats it.
