Installing mirror on new 993 windsheild
 

So I expected to have the new 993 windshield in my 89 targa (08/88 production) yesterday. But the installer says he brought the windshield with the spade connector for the antenna instead of the pig tail wire and plug to the amplifier like mine. So I only got the windshields in the 98 & 99 Turbo Diesel MBZ's done (full size economy cars @ 32 MPG).
Naturally I'm going to prepare the car, so the day before I remove the old windshield (saving the the trim). I go to remove the mirror and find a glob of epoxy glue on it. Thinking the previous Owner had the windshield changed, I'm cussing out the windshield installers thinking they broke the mirror and just glued it in place.

After searching the forum it looks like it really is just glued on. Is that true? If so, do I use the normal windshield crazy glue on the metal tab and where do I get the glue for inside the mirror base?

As a side note to converting to the 993 windshield, I spent 2 hours trimming the headliner and A-pillar vinyl, besides all the cleaning of the groove along with cleaning and waxing the area. Since the targa has a light above the rearview mirror, the wires run up the A-pillar right were the 993 gasket needs to sit. You have to move the wires out from behind the flange area and trim the 993 inner seal so that it will fit in this area.
Any information on attaching the mirror would be appreciated.

Yep, the mirror base is glued on with a 2-part epoxy. It should be available at any auto parts store.

your installer should be able to put the mirror base on the new window ... if they can't I would wonder about their ability to install a window ....

Also if they are a Porsche minded installer they should remove the trim and reinstall it with out messing it up ....

I probably wasn't clear, the original windshield has a metal tab glued to the windshield, but the base of my rear view mirror is full of a brown colored glue / epoxy. There does not appear to be any CLIP on the mirror to attach it to the windshield mounted tab. If the mirror just glues to the windshield mounted metal tab, how do I get the old glue out of the mirror base?

Finally got a new mirror, the problem was that the previous installer didn't know you have to lift the mirror up to remove it. They just pulled it off and broke the tab off the inside of the mirror base. I couldn't see the problem before because it was a solid block of epoxy glue before.
