Leather or vinyl?

Alert, this may be a stupid question

Are the seats in my 84 Targa leather or vinyl? They are cracked, super dry and old and I am planning to do something about it!

What are my options? Leatherique? Recovering?

Best trick is to put some leather conditioner on them. If it absorbs it is leather.

Lots of opinions on products to use. I use Surflex. Surflex can mix leather/vinyl color for you car as well and has a product that fills cracks that is great. If you go this route, mix some of the color with the crack filler before applying. It is a gray base color and does not take the color as well as your seats will.

They are leather "seating surfaces." The parts your body hits are leather, i.e. the perforated parts and the bolsters. On your seats, you can easily see the leather, it is the dried out and cracking parts.

A redye with Leatherique, using the softening process, sanding them down a bit, etc. will make them look better, but I can see from your picture that that stitching on your seat is pretty much gone. So even with a redye, it won't look quite right.

Replacement leather for my '79 was priced around $950 recently from World Upholstery. I have not ordered yet. I have a window I need to fix first...

$950 for both front seats? That sounds about right if so.
