Leather or vinyl?
Alert, this may be a stupid question
![]() Are the seats in my 84 Targa leather or vinyl? They are cracked, super dry and old and I am planning to do something about it! What are my options? Leatherique? Recovering? |

Best trick is to put some leather conditioner on them. If it absorbs it is leather.
Lots of opinions on products to use. I use Surflex. Surflex can mix leather/vinyl color for you car as well and has a product that fills cracks that is great. If you go this route, mix some of the color with the crack filler before applying. It is a gray base color and does not take the color as well as your seats will. A redye with Leatherique, using the softening process, sanding them down a bit, etc. will make them look better, but I can see from your picture that that stitching on your seat is pretty much gone. So even with a redye, it won't look quite right. |

Replacement leather for my '79 was priced around $950 recently from World Upholstery. I have not ordered yet. I have a window I need to fix first...

$950 for both front seats? That sounds about right if so.
