rear reflector question

Will a rear reflector with the round posts for attaching points fit and be attachable on the back of an 86 Carrera that uses the different type mounting points? The 86-89 (I think) have the screws in the top and the hooks on the bottom.

I don't know for sure. However, the body panel that holds the reflector is the same from 74-89. Someone should know.

The rear panel behind the reflector of the 86-89 3.2s is different to the earlier one.
It also has additional rectangular cut outs for the fog lights.

So an earlier reflector won't fit without drama.

As you probably know you can still get the reflector for your car new from our host and at $277.25 it's a good price.

Bob

I think that's a mistake in the catalogue. The later 3.2 steel panel is different to the earlier one.

Thanks for the reply..I wanted to try to fit one of the black letter rear reflectors on my car but the seem to all be from earlier models...I am sure I did see a black letter reflector on an 86 though.

I think the black PORSCHE letters went to clear when the G50 started. 87

The one I have has no black letters at all. Is the vinyl cut into the letters already and then simply applied to the back of the reflector?

I fitted an earlier "black lettrered" reflector on my 89 Carrera as i liked the look of the large Porsche letters better.Do a search as i posted some pics sometime last year on this forum.I can't post any pics at this time because i'm at work !

If you are determined to install one,PM me your email address and i'll forward you the step by step with all the details ...

Cheers!

Kind of on the same plane, and don't mean to hijack the thread, but does anyone know where I can find the black porsche lettering (pre-fabbed?) that some fellas put on their RSR's on the rear reflector which has been painted over and/or replaced with one without the actual reflectors? I painted mine same color as the car in my 965, and wanted to see how it'd look on mine if the price is right - this pic is what I'm after...

Otto,

If you have a good example of the font, just about any sign shop should be able to cut those vinyl letters to the exact size you need... even apply them for you too. There's a guy on here (Pelican BB) who sells vinyl graphics, but I don't know his pricing.

Agree w/ Joe Bob on the green car font. Just a smidgeon too tall. Looks good though

You can find the font set from a google search but If you don't have the hardware to make the graphic you can only send snappy looking notes to people. Some of the letters are odd looking. The ones we never see on a car.

I like the vinyl on the rear. Talk to JB

I really dont think there's a right or wrong, the font is probably a little off in all of these cars...look at the yellow car above, its much smaller than both examples. But for those who are building an exact representation of an IROC it may be important. I just wanted a painted reflector with Porsche lettering and honestly never gave it that much thought.

I agree with you.....but the customer is always right so I strive to be as close to the original as possible. Returns suck....

I actually tried to get them from you being my first choice, but we just kept missing each other for whatever reason. I'll definitely look you up for my next graphics go around.
