Oil usage - 3L
I am just getting to know this car... What should one expect for oil usage on a 58k mile SC?
I have driven about 1000 miles and seem to have gone from the top of that gage to teh bottom, which seems to correspond to the top and bottom mark on the dip stick. Seems more than it should be to me. Does the level in the tank make a difference on oil usage? There are a couple of small sepages around the oil lines but I haven't tried to see if they need tightening up a bit just yet. There is no smoke out the pipes (at least that I have noticed yet). SO where does this go. What advice and ideas can you share? |

Are you checking the oil level correctly? Engine running, up to normal temp, on level ground?
1 qt. per 1000 miles is the accepted usage llisted by Porsche.

Actually the acceptable number from your owners manual is 1.5 liters per 600 miles. In actual practice a 911 engine that is not worn out will burn anywhere from a quart per 3000 miles to 1 quart per 1000 miles. The guage may not be accurate enough to decide. I'd add a quart when it gets low and keep track of how often you add a quart.
