Need help unplugging console
I'm installing new carpet and need to unplug the controls from the console. Some of the leads don't seam to have a plug on them Any help would be appreciated.

911 console........
It would help to know what year your car is. However, assuming that you are refering to the a/c controls, they are held in by way of a nut on the switch shaft. Pull the knobs off and you will see the nuts. They have two slots in the front face rather than being a hex shape. Normally, you should be able to use two small flat blade screwdrivers to remove them. I put one screwdriver in a slot and use the other one as a lever with the switch shaft as the leverage point or fulcrum. Hope this helps.

Gernerally you will find that the easiest thing to do is trace the wiring harnesss back about one foot and unplug the switches there rather than at the console itself. One problem you still still encounter is the thermostat wire that runs to the evaporator in the smugglers box is one long wire and isn't easily removed, try using a 1.5 inch wood bit on the back of the console to enlarge the hole so you can get the switch through it.

And be VERY careful with that "wire" for the thermostat. It is not really a wire it is a tube filled with gas. If you bend the tube and crimp it closed or cause it to leak you will have to replace it and that is a real pain. As I remember it is a large white "wire" looking thing.

Thanks for the replies. I will give that a try. If it gets too tough, I'll just cut a the carpet & hide it. The console covers most of it.
Thanks again. You guys make this site awesome! Cheers jack |
