Radio noise
After a lifetime of dreaming, I bought my first Porsche in February and I am trying to learn everything I can about it. It is a 2007 Carrera , loaded ,with tiptronic and 12,000 miles. It is everything I always thought it would be. I am , however, having two problems
First I occasionally get a popping noise from the radio when it is off. I don't know if it is a short or loose wire. The CarFax report said it had been inspected by the dealer for "electrical" problems twice, with no problems found. Anyone know an easy way I can check this? Second, the driver power seat squeaks when I move it up. I had the mechanic put some lubricant on it and it worked for awhile, but it is squeaking again. Any ideas? I really appreciate the help |

12K miles, that's pretty new. Any service history that might indicated someone messing with something electrical? Aftermarket stereo, alarm, window switch, anything? That might give you a good place to look for loose grounds, etc. As for the seat, maybe better lube? Mechanic might have just sprayed it with WD-40, which won't last.

The Bose amplifiers have a habit of failing and they exhibit the popping symptom you're describing.

If it is a Bose system, the speaker cover on the door usually has a Bose name logo on it.
On my old 02 Carrera, our cell phones would make the stereo make odd popping static type noises. I do not remember if that happened when it was off or only when on. Moving them further from the central unit helped with the noise. On the seat squeaking, look to see if the leather cushion is rubbing against the center console anywhere that might cause the noise. Maybe some leather conditioner could help. I have seen a piece of the soft loop side of velcro glued onto a surface where the seat cushion touched it. I guessed it was to prevent wear (it should also prevent a noise). Most of all, enjoy your new car by driving it.
