alternator rattle problems?
 

Hi everyone I have a 911 w/ 2.2 and the alternator is starting to rattle. It has a Bosh 55amp external reg. I removed the belt and the rattle went away. So I removed the alternator and fan from the housing thinking it might be the barrings. There was no drag or noticeable play in the shaft up down in out? I noticed that I only have 3 shims. 2 inside 1 outside. Reading the threads do I need 6 shims? All help is greatly appreciated.

on the 3.2 one needs 6.

I had a similar problem, it's your lack of shims.

It can lead to all sorts of problems....

Bad news, The Fan is notched and the pulley. can I weld in the void then mill/ machine down to a flat surface on the fan?
