Wireless/bluetooth portable speaker(s)

Wondered if anybody has researched this? Looking to run off my iphone and be able to move between cars. Probably looking to run one of the JBL/Bose "big sausages" with the bass on both ends...or looking for ideas. Yeah I get it...just listen to the boxster 6 behind me. But if I have an hour drive, and the targa top is off...might be nice to have another option.

I have one like this I run in my Cobra.
Works fine but I must say I am no audiophile. I just want to hear some tunes and dont much care about superior audio quality. I am sure there are better set ups but if you desire ease over excellent audio quality this is a great option.

I have a UE Roll I use in my 912. It has a stretchy carrying cord that I use to hang it over my ashtray, it's plenty loud enough for an old guy like me.
I still have to connect my cig lighter up so I can use it to charge on longer trips.

I'd be really curious to hear what others who don't have, or want, a stereo system in their cars use as well.

thanks...just what I am considering

Do you use a power source for your phone while in the car, or does it just run on it's battery charge?

I have a Ultimate Ears (or UE) Megaboom. I have had it for years and they are now on to the Megaboom 3. My speaker has been through the ringer and is still going. Sound is great and battery life is incredible. (The 3 claims 20 hours of battery life, and my Megaboom easily has 14-16, so much that I feel like I hardly charge it and it's always ready to go).

They make a smaller "Boom" that my dad has that would work in the cockpit of a car (I have used both in vehicles) that may work for you as well.

Can't say enough about them- bluetooth, great sound, great battery life. Would recommend.

Another vote for the JBL Flip 4 (or 5 as it looks like they're up to that now). Plenty loud. I modified a radio delete plate by cutting out the center, gluing on some grille material, and mounting the speaker to the plate so it's cleanly hidden, but still get great sound

Can you post a pic of your set up?

Nice to have something to listen to Spike's Car Radio on during the longer trips / when on the freeway.

Keep posting up suggestions!

I just made a radio delete plate and would consider mounting the device to the outside...but would also be curious about mounting it behind the dash as long as it wasn't a PITA to install and remove.

Pictures?

A bit hard to capture it as it's dark in the garage, but you get the idea. There are 4 slats cut out, 2 on each side, and I used velcro strips to loop through and hold the speaker in place.

wireless

I think my kids all have something like this...and I have googled it and see that Target has a pretty decent display and some sort of inter-active production. I am going to head to Target and check out what they have and report back. My goal is 1) compatibility with my iphone, 2) sound quality and 3) flexibility and battery life. I have a few early cars that I intentionally deleted the radios in...for that "boxster" sound. A move-able speaker that I could use in each car with my iphone would be great. I could also use it in other non-car environments...but that would simply be an added plus. And when I think about it...wireless? Hell yea...get rid of those stupid doorpocket speakers and wires running everywhere? Bout time...

Cheers

I used a Bose bluetooth speaker for a while. It was okay but if you're running a loud exhaust you're probably better off just using Airpods or similar wireless ear buds when driving solo.

Progress ...sort-of

Looked like local Target had a bunch of wireless setups on display to check out, so I called to confirm with someone in their electronics dept and headed over. Guy in the dept. claimed he know a lot about most things electronic, but little about wireless speakers. He had lots of JBL and BOSE and Sony and a few off-brands. The size of the Charge 5 and Flip 4 made them candidates, however both display models didn't work
But the good news he told me was the Flip 4 was being discontinued so it was clearanced from $99 to $30
But the bad news was that he didn't have any, nor did any other Targets within 100 miles. He did find a couple online that weren't clearanced in light aqua which I could buy and have shipped to the store, but as they weren't on clearance...full tilt $99 for light blue...and I hadn't even heard one, I think not.
Headed to Best Buy. Nice sales guy, big display that worked of everything. Compared apples to apples and while they didn't have the Flip 4 at all, they replacement Flip 5 for $99 sounded great, the functions were easy to see and they gave me a two week return policy. I'll figure it out this afternoon and report back.

JBL Flip 5

Initially...I am a fan at $99. Sound is pretty good. I repeat...no wires, and I find that astounding. I am trying it out mounted behind me on the rear seat hinges. The next size up is the Charge 5 ($149) which is 30% bigger...I have two weeks to decide.

I’ve not looked at them for a while .
Take a look to see if they can link as a stereo pair , if so a roll of 3m Velcro from Home Depot could see one on each side , maybe attached to the underside of the dash ?
Last time a looked , “party mode” was the big thing where multiples can link together .. but you didn’t get true stereo if you used a pair .
