76 Targa - The Restoration Begins...
We've had this Targa in the family for over 24 years and I've recently taken "responsibility" for it from my father. I took it down to my euro independent mechanic and have found that Porsche parts are worse (cost wise) than BMW! Regardless, the restoration has begun.
The first step was getting the driver's side door to open again. There were a lot of pieces that didn't hold together. That lead to the discovery of missing teeth in the window crank, a little rust here, a little rust there... you know, the whole peeling back the onion discovery process... The door panels were shot so we are crafting up some RS style panels. Looking good so far but except where the pull tab comes out of the vinyl to open the door. Right now, there is just a slit in the vinyl. I'm looking for suggestions on how to get a more finished look (and pics if you have them). That's just the beginning and I'm sure I'll be posting more questions as time goes on. Great forum! Thanks for all the knowledge. |
