Flywheel Mods / Clutch Question
After a recent infusion of cash, I am finally in a position to get the parts together to swap in the 2.7 liter motor into my '69. It is a mild motor with Webers so the 901 gearbox (I like the old shift pattern) is staying. I am planning am planning on using the stock 215 mm flywheel and a Kennedy Engineering Stage 1 clutch to deal with the extra torque.
Has anyone done any modifications to the flywheel to lighten it and if so: (1) was it worth the effort and (2) is there a shop in the SoCal (preferably San Diego) area that you could suggest to do the work? Second, does anyone have experience with the Kennedy Engineering clutches? Thanks in advance, Rich |

Gee, an infusion of cash? Hmm... where from?
I am anxious to hear how the 2.7 works out for you. I can't help much on the clutch request but if you are going with the 2.7 should you use an aluminum flywheel? If you do not intend to drag race it (which I know you won't) I would thing the lighter flywheel is worth it. I will look up a few Corvair vendors who are out your way. One is Larry's Corvair in LA area http://home.earthlink.net/~k6ro/ if he cannot help I bet he can point you in the right direction. Another possibility is Ray Sedman at http://www.american-pi.com/corvair/corvhome.html once again he is Corvair but I am sure he could provide some leads. Good luck.

BTW: Steve Weiner at Rennsport also does lightweight flywheels and clutches for early cars. You might want to talk to him at 503-244-0990. He has a good reputation and the UPS up and down the coast can't be that bad.
