New BBS wheel centers?

I ave a nice set of BBS wheels, but they have a 928 70mm

THanks,

chris

Hi i think what you really want to do is replace one of the wheel halfs, but it must be a three piece wheel, the center isnt the problem, or you could use spacers, i kinda dought the wheels are 70mm offset i would go for 50's but 70 is pretty high, also you will need to be more specific with what you have what width etc what type car they are going on, year make, also by the time you pay for the parts and labor to have them installed it may be cheaper to buy a new set and sell them to recover some of your money, for more info e-mail me speedwheelmail@aol.com, maybe i can help you figure it out, Kevin

THe so wheel halves define the offset, not the wheel center? That makes sense... Well, they are 928 wheels with a 70mm offset. I'd like to put them on an early 911, 23mm...

About the best way is to mount a tire on the wheel, jack the car up by the shock bolt, lowere the car after the wheel is remover back to ride height, slide the wheel under put where you think it looks righ will not rub etc then measure for spacers or you can email me the wheels width both on the car and the one you have and the offsets on bot and i should come close you will still need to fine tune what the spacers will be, Kevin

Call Wheel Enhancement. They sell the BBS three piece system and might be able to help you out. I suspect that it may not be cost effective though. Fikse, for example sells new wheel halves but buying two halves is almost as much as a new wheel.

They are on the web if you need the number.

I have been buying up BBS wheels myself. I did find one pair with a strange cone shaped center but other than that it is the halves that change the offset. BBS wants way too much money for halves. $200-300 a half. The best bet is to get wheels with the right offset, find used halves or buy a bunch of wheels like I did until you get enough pieces to make the right one. I have a guy out here who will make rim halves out of generic rim halves for just about any wheel, I think about $125 a half. Call me if you need his number.

The other thing to look out for in the rim half market is there are 20 bolt racing wheels and some that have a larger number 26? bolt. The racing wheels are much lighter.

Not sure if this will help you out or not, but I've been digging into the custom offset/3-piece wheels a bit myself. No purchases yet, but here's what I've discovered.

Used BBS inners/outers are easy to find, but centers aren't. Race teams that used them often had them Magnafluxed checked for cracks and pitched if they were bad, therefore not a lot of used centers available. New ones aren't cheap.

Questionable wheels aren't something to mess with on a race car, so I decided to go new. Check out www.ccwheel.com. They quoted me $1800 for a set of four last fall - any size, any offset. I thought this was extremely reasonable.

There are lower cost steel alternatives too up to 16" dia - check out www. diamondracingwheels.com.

Good Luck ...
