Can you "see" the shock spacer on the front without taking strut out?

Im looking at lowering the front of my car, and since its new to me I dont know if the previous owner took that US spec spacer out of the top of the shock/strut. Is it something I can see in there without having to take the shock out?

should be able to see it from some angle with a flashlight. if the upper threads, up in the trunk, are barely above the nut, it has the spacer. if you have 3/4" exposed, it's not there.
