964 rocker cover question

I have a 82 Sc that i plan Installing 964 rocker covers on. I removed the 82 rocker and test fitted the oem 964 cover but it looks like I need to shave off all the clips because it doesn't fit flush against the body. I planned on attaching these with 2 screw on both ends and run a heavy bead of 3M windshield glue/ rubber down through the center. The 3M glue works great but I'd like to know if it's necessry to grind the tabs off? I see theres a body seal for the rockers, does this work to fill that gap. Thanks
