Plastic Feeler Gages?
Weird question, I am trying to measure the clearance between two metal surfaces in a motorcycle engine when the flywheel is mounted and torqued in place. I cannot access the surfaces with the flywheel on, and I don't want to use a metal gage since I would like an "imprint" of the thickness.
Any ideas on what I can use? I thought I read somewhere about a crush type plastic gage that would work but not sure where to source. The distance is .04" or less. Soft steel against aluminum... Thanks- Matt

You are thinking about Plastigage ...it looks like a thin piece of Plastercine (the kids toy) and you put it on the surface to be measured...then put the cap on and torque it down...DO NOT ROTATE !!!...then take the cap off...and measure the width of the stuff by the card that comes in the kit.
It will be flattened out and the width is the clearance. Easy as pie...as long as you do not rotate the part for obvious reasons. I always oil the surface lightly to prevent the guage stuff from sticking to the crank. Bob
