85 carrera clock again
Ok, when I drive my car (100 mile trip today) the clock comes on and keeps perfect time. After the car is off, the clock will run fine for several hours and then stop in the middle of the night. I really think that the problem is voltage. I have done a volt test at the clock and I get right about 12 V. But I am sure when car is running it is way higher than 12V. Like 12.35. What I notice is that the car has plenty of starting power all the time no problem. But for some reason the clock needs a bit more. Don't know if I want to spend the money to get clock cleaned when it keeps perfect quartz time. What do you think? Nick Fixing one thing at a time.

LOL Nick :D
Well, it could be a resistor or capacity or even a loose solder. Some one posted a fix for it. I replaced mine witha known good one awhile back now I have a very nice desk clock that is correct twice a day :D |
Well my wife told me today that you really only need the stupid clock when you are driving! Right? Nick

Spend some time searching this forum under clocks. I fixed my dead clock for about $3.00. Took about two hours while watching March Maddness.
Take the clock apart, unsolder off both capacitors, buy two more at Radio Shack, solder new ones on. Fixed. |

Reason I ask is that normal range (1500 RPM, accessories off) is 13.5-14.2 VDC per Bentley; this suggests you may also have a battery capacity and/or charging system issue FWIW. Dale |
I'm sorry, I get more, I just tossed a number out there. I think now I will get the clock rebuilt by Hollywood. Could be a resistor or something. Thanks, Nick

Really easy to fix, I just fixed mine 86 Carrera clock with two capacitors as well and I lubed the gears lightly and reflowed some of the solder joints. I can help you if your interested.
