I am trying to find a 115 v MIG welder for body work. What brands do the members have and would you buy it again?

Miller Mig.
A friend (bodyman) just purchased a Miller Tig (Syncrowave 180 SD) he said that when using the mig for body sheet metal the welds tend to be harder than Tig. This leads to more grinding (additional heat and more potential for warpage) to finish the job. |

I got mine from Sears. It says "Craftsman" but it's really a Century welder. I got a 115V welder, but one that is set up to work on a 20 amp circuit. Have used it for welding everything from my new front suspension pan to the frame on a trailer with no complaints. One thing I bought that really has made welding more fun is one of the "instant on" welding helmets. Got it from Harbor Freight on sale for $80. Makes starting the weld a hell of a lot easier.

Lincoln SP-125.
Feature I like most - infinite adjustment of voltage. Many $500-800 MIG welders have switches with fixed stops rather than an infinitely adjustable potentiometer. Plus Lincoln is a good name with readily available parts in my (rural) area. Charlie |

Got the Lincoln as well, no problems with the unit, just the user.

Save up for the TIG! Like John said, the TIG welds look better, less work to grind, less finish time. I have an HTP mig and a Lincoln TIG, and the HTP hardly gets used....

My Century 130 machine has the variable pot heat adjustment! And, Sears sells parts for it, a definite need fulfilled ... out here in the boonies!
