Chain Tensioner Upgrade Question?

I'm planning to upgrade my stock mechanical tensioners with the oil fed carrera chain tensioners and I had a couple of questions.

I have a 1980 Euro 911SC, Vin#91A0130707 with a 930/09 type engine, engine no. *6300427*. Is there a way to tell from the numbers if I have the later style chain sprocket supports that were introduced in the mid 80's or do I need to pull the timing covers? If they are the older style, what are the pros and cons of using the older style with the wheel spacer vs updating to the newer ones. Are there any quality differences in the chain tensioner upgrade kits offered by performance products vs. pelican vs. others? Do these kits contain aftermarket parts or porsche parts?

Thanks!

John

John, the kits all come from the same source. They are Porsche OEM.

I don't know if you can tell from the numbers if you have the updated support arms, but it is plain as day once you open up the covers.

Plan on doing the chain ramps while your in there, it's just good insurance, and doesn't take much longer.

And like lagoon said, they are all factory kits. So buy from Pelican.

Thanks! I was planing to replace all the chain ramps too while I was in there. I'll definately buy the kit from pelican.

According to the Pelican Parts catalogue;

Sprocket Support (right), 911/911 Turbo (1980-89) from engine # 6400451, so it appears you have the earlier style.

Brad, that means my engine was 24 engines away of getting the later style sprocket supports. Close but no cigar! Thanks!
